Displaying Massive 10ft Aquarium for Exotic Lake Malawi Cichlids

Creating a bespoke aquarium for our clients is always an exciting challenge, and this project for a client in Madurai was no exception. Designed to house the vibrant and diverse species of Lake Malawi cichlids, this aquarium is a perfect blend of aesthetic appeal and functional design. Here, we’ll take you through the meticulous process of bringing this aquatic masterpiece to life.

Initial setup and assembly of the toughened glass panels.

Impressive Dimensions and Premium Materials

This custom aquarium boasts impressive dimensions of 10x2x2.5 ft, crafted from 19mm toughened glass. To ensure a flawless finish and robust structure, we used zero silicon pasting. The glass panels were securely fixed using Premium Wacker 121 silicon, a food-grade adhesive specifically designed for aquariums.

Lighting and Filtration Systems

To replicate the natural habitat of Lake Malawi cichlids, we employed two Neo Helios XP 1200 lights, providing the perfect spectrum and intensity for these colorful fish. For filtration, we utilized two Fluval FX6 canister filters, renowned for their efficiency and reliability, each with a 3+2 year warranty. Additionally, we incorporated a SUNSUN HW 3000 filter for extra filtration and surface skimming, ensuring pristine water quality at all times.

Substrate and Rockwork

Understanding the digging behavior of Malawi cichlids, we used a substantial 4-inch thick layer of Neil sand as the substrate. This required around 200 kgs of soil, creating a natural and comfortable environment for the fish. We strategically placed 250 kgs of Honey comb rocks to further mimic their natural habitat, providing ample hiding spots and territorial boundaries.

Craftsmanship and Curing

The construction process was meticulous, taking three days to complete the pasting of the tank. Following this, a 12-day curing period was observed to ensure the silicon set properly, guaranteeing the tank’s integrity and longevity.

The final assembly and curing phase ensures a sturdy build.

Conclusion

This custom-designed aquarium is a testament to our commitment to quality and detail. By combining advanced materials, expert craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of aquatic ecosystems, we created a stunning and functional habitat for Exotic Lake Malawi cichlids. This project not only met our client’s expectations but also stood as a beautiful addition to their space.
