The Perfect Plastic Plant Aquarium Oasis for a Client

Transforming a 36x18x18-inch tank into a vibrant aquascape without silicon may seem unconventional. However, it’s exactly what we achieved for a recent client. By opting for a setup that minimizes maintenance while maximizing aesthetics, we combined plastic plants and black river pebbles to craft a naturalistic underwater environment. The choice of equipment was crucial

Dophin C1000 filter ensured efficient water circulation and filtration, maintaining optimal water quality without requiring frequent cleaning. Illumination was provided by the SUNSUN ADT led with Brackets, offering a spectrum that enhances the colors of both plants and fish.

Plastic plants were strategically placed to mimic the lush foliage found in natural habitats, providing shelter and visual appeal without the challenges of live plants. Black river pebbles not only anchored the design but also added a contrasting texture that complemented the overall theme.

Aquarium Design Madurai, Aquascaping Services, Koi Pond Installation

In conclusion, our project demonstrates that with careful planning and the right equipment, plastic plants can offer a stunning alternative to traditional live aquascapes, delivering beauty and ease of care in equal measure.

This setup not only met the client’s desire for a low-maintenance aquatic display but also showcased our innovative approach to aquascaping. By eliminating silicon pasting and focusing on durable materials, we created a beautiful and sustainable underwater landscape that will thrive with minimal upkeep.

Creating a Stunning Lake Malawi Cichlid Hardscape

At Filial Aquatics, we recently completed an extraordinary project for a client in Melur, Madurai District. The centerpiece of this project is a 4x2x2 ft aquarium, meticulously crafted from 12mm polished glass with zero silicon pasting, ensuring a sleek and flawless finish. Video Link here:- Youtube

Plastic Plant Aquarium, Low-Maintenance Aquascape

The tank is illuminated by the powerful Neo Helios XP 1200 LEDs, enhancing the vibrant colors of the Lake Malawi cichlids. We chose the SUNSUN HW3000 filter for its superior filtration capabilities, ensuring pristine water quality for the cichlids. The substrate consists of Neil sand, providing a natural and aesthetically pleasing base.

Custom Aquarium Design, Lake Malawi Cichlids

A symmetrical aquascaping design was employed, using carefully selected hole rocks to mimic the natural habitat of the cichlids. This design not only offers visual appeal but also provides essential hiding spots and territories for the fish, promoting their well-being.

The aquarium is complemented by a custom-built cabinet, designed by the client, which adds a touch of elegance and functionality to the setup. This project exemplifies our commitment to combining artistry with practicality, creating a stunning and harmonious underwater environment that delights both our clients and their aquatic inhabitants.

This custom aquarium boasts impressive dimensions of 10x2x2.5 ft, crafted from 19mm toughened glass. To ensure a flawless finish and robust structure, we used zero silicon pasting. The glass panels were securely fixed using Premium Wacker 121 silicon, a food-grade adhesive specifically designed for aquariums.
Creating a bespoke aquarium for our clients is always an exciting challenge, and this project for a client in Madurai was no exception. Designed to house the vibrant and diverse species of Lake Malawi cichlids, this aquarium is a perfect blend of aesthetic appeal and functional design. Here, we’ll take you through the meticulous process of bringing this aquatic masterpiece to life.

Lighting and Filtration Systems

To replicate the natural habitat of Lake Malawi cichlids, we employed two Neo Helios XP 1200 lights, providing the perfect spectrum and intensity for these colorful fish. For filtration, we utilized two Fluval FX6 canister filters, renowned for their efficiency and reliability, each with a 3+2 year warranty. Additionally, we incorporated a SUNSUN HW 3000 filter for extra filtration and surface skimming, ensuring pristine water quality at all times.

Substrate and Rockwork

Understanding the digging behavior of Malawi cichlids, we used a substantial 4-inch thick layer of Neil sand as the substrate. This required around 200 kgs of soil, creating a natural and comfortable environment for the fish. We strategically placed 250 kgs of Honey comb rocks to further mimic their natural habitat, providing ample hiding spots and territorial boundaries.

Craftsmanship and Curing

The construction process was meticulous, taking three days to complete the pasting of the tank. Following this, a 12-day curing period was observed to ensure the silicon set properly, guaranteeing the tank’s integrity and longevity.

Conclusion

This custom-designed aquarium is a testament to our commitment to quality and detail. By combining advanced materials, expert craftsmanship, and a deep understanding of aquatic ecosystems, we created a stunning and functional habitat for Exotic Lake Malawi cichlids. In 2019, we embarked on a remarkable journey to create a public aquarium. Our goal was to design an exhibit that showcases the beauty of aquatic life and educates visitors on the diverse ecosystems found in rivers and lakes around the world. The theme for this project was “Story of a River,” and we meticulously scaped six aquariums, each measuring 6x2x2 feet, with zero silicon pasting. Here’s a closer look at the captivating displays we created:

Flooded South Indian River

Our second tank mimics a flooded river biotope representing South India’s native rivers. This setup includes massive boulders and a mix of Orange Chromides and Barilius Ardens. The design reflects the natural beauty and diversity of the region’s aquatic environments.

Exploring the Wild Waters of Agasthiar Falls and Tamiraparani River

The Journey A Tale of Two Waters

The hills around Agasthiar Falls are nothing short of magical, with their cascading waters and lush greenery. As we trekked through these verdant landscapes, we were greeted by the serene sound of the waterfall, a fitting prelude to the adventure that awaited us in the Tamiraparani River.

Our recent adventure took us deep into the pristine wilderness of the Agasthiar Falls and the Tamiraparani River, nestled in the heart of the Western Ghats. This journey wasn’t just a simple nature trip; it was a quest to discover the hidden treasures of these untamed waters—exotic loaches, vibrant barbs, and an authentic biotope that reflects the essence of this unique ecosystem.

The Tamiraparani River, with its crystal-clear waters and rich biodiversity, is a hidden gem of the Western Ghats. Flowing through Tamil Nadu, this river is not just a lifeline for the local communities but also a sanctuary for many endemic species of fish, including the exotic loaches and barbs that we were so eager to find.

The Catch Exotic Loaches and Barbs

Our search in the river’s cool, fast-flowing waters was rewarded with an array of vibrant fish species. The loaches we encountered were a sight to behold, with their intricate patterns and unique behaviors. The barbs, on the other hand, dazzled us with their bright colors and lively movements.
These species are a testament to the rich biodiversity of the Tamiraparani River, thriving in an environment that has remained relatively untouched by human interference. The loaches, with their preference for rocky substrates, and the barbs, with their affinity for shaded, plant-rich areas, reflect the diverse habitats found within this river.

Understanding the Biotope

The biotope of the Tamiraparani River is a fascinating mix of rocky outcrops, sandy beds, and densely vegetated areas. The water is typically soft and slightly acidic, with a gentle flow that supports a variety of aquatic plants and fish species.

During our exploration, we noted the presence of several species of aquatic plants, including dense patches of Vallisneria and Cryptocoryne, which provide essential cover and breeding grounds for the fish. The river’s rocky substrates, coupled with the fallen leaves and driftwood scattered along the riverbed, create an ideal environment for bottom-dwelling species like loaches.

The Collection Trip Tips and Insights

For those eager to embark on a similar journey, here are a few tips that might come in handy:

  • Timing is Key: The best time to explore these waters is early morning or late afternoon when the fish are most active.
  • Respect the Habitat: Always ensure that you minimize disruption to the natural habitat. This means treading lightly, avoiding unnecessary noise, and being mindful of the plants and animals around you.
  • Collect Responsibly: If you plan to bring back fish or plants, make sure to take only what you can sustain in a healthy environment at home. Over-collection can harm the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
  • Prepare for the Terrain: The hills and riverbanks can be challenging, so proper footwear and gear are essential. Be ready for a mix of wet and rocky conditions.

A Stunning Discus Fish Aquascape Elegance Meets Functionality

Tank Details Seamless Design with Zero Silicon Pasting

At Filial Aquatics, we take pride in designing vibrant, dynamic aquascapes, and our latest project for Discus Fish stands as a prime example of how to blend aesthetics with function. This beautiful 48x20x20 tank, tailored for the majestic Altum Flora Discus, incorporates high-quality equipment, carefully selected plants, and thoughtful design elements. Let’s dive into the details of this project.

The base of this aquascape is a 48x20x20 tank with 12mm extra-clear glass and zero silicon pasting. This construction ensures a seamless and polished appearance, providing an unobstructed view of the aquascape. The clarity and precision of this technique enhance the visual appeal and make the design stand out, allowing the natural beauty of the fish and plants to be the main focus.

Filtration & Surface Skimming: Keeping the Water Pristine

Water quality is critical for Discus fish, and our system includes the Fluval FX2 canister filter, known for its powerful filtration capabilities. To further enhance water clarity, we added the Dophin SH250 with Skimmer, which ensures that surface debris is effectively removed. This combination of filtration and skimming creates a healthy, crystal-clear environment where Discus fish and plants can thrive.

Lighting Full-Spectrum Brilliance with Neo Helios XP1200

To bring out the best in both plants and fish, we used the Neo Helios XP1200 LED. This full-spectrum lighting fixture is ideal for highlighting the vibrant colors of the Altum Flora Discus while supporting robust plant growth. Its adjustable brightness allows for fine-tuning the lighting to meet the needs of both plants and fish, ensuring the best possible conditions for growth and display.

Substrate and Hardscape: Myu Amazon Soil & Seriyu Rocks

We selected Myu Amazon Soil as the nutrient-rich substrate to promote plant growth and maintain stable water parameters—essential for the Discus and other inhabitants. Seriyu Rocks serve as the primary decor, providing natural beauty and structure. These rocks not only add texture and depth but also create hiding spots, giving the fish a sense of security and comfort.

Filial Aquatics, Aquascaping, Aquarium Design

Plant Selection Hygrophila Polysperma & Hygrophila Difformis

For this aquascape, we selected two resilient, low-maintenance plant species that complement the tank’s overall design:

  • Hygrophila Polysperma: Known for its fast growth and easy care, this plant adds vibrant green hues and helps balance the ecosystem by absorbing excess nutrients. It provides a lush background, creating a natural, jungle-like atmosphere.
  • Hygrophila Difformis: This versatile plant features finely textured leaves, adding a delicate, feathery aesthetic to the aquascape. Its bright green color and rapid growth make it perfect for filling in spaces and creating depth within the layout.
Together, these plants contribute to a vibrant, healthy environment for the fish, enhancing the tank’s visual appeal.

Fish Selection Altum Flora Discus, Lemon Tetras & Borneo Loach

The centerpiece of this aquascape is the group of eight stunning Altum Flora Discus, known for their graceful movement and vivid coloration. Complementing the Discus are Lemon Tetras, whose yellow hues create a beautiful contrast, and a Borneo Loach, which helps maintain the tank’s substrate by keeping it clean.

Final Touches: A Balanced Ecosystem

For this aquascape, we selected two resilient, low-maintenance plant species that complement the tank’s overall design:

The combination of a well-constructed tank, efficient filtration, powerful lighting, nutrient-rich soil, and carefully chosen plants creates an ideal environment for Discus fish. The addition of Seriyu Rocks, along with the plant species Hygrophila Polysperma and Hygrophila Difformis, completes this balanced and visually appealing aquascape.
